Ziad Hindi is currently completing an Advanced Clinical and Transplant fellowship at Western University.

He initially studied Human Biology and Psychology at the University of Toronto and completed his medical degree at Saba University School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at Western University. 

His past research has been in liver transplant tourism, investigating the affect of timing of colonoscopy on adenoma detection rate as well as investigating the role of alcohol in liver disease and non-hepatic cancers. 

After his graduation, he will be joining the Niagara Health gastroenterology group to provide care to patients with Liver and GI-related illnesses. 


Presentation Overview

This presentation will review some of the top liver abstracts of DDW 2023. We will discuss Non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases, and decompensation features of cirrhosis, including esophageal variceal bleeding risk, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, and refractory hepatic hydrothorax.

Session Learning Objectives:
  • Participants will learn about the diagnosis of NAFLD and important indicators if advanced fibrosis.
  • Participants will learn about the use of oral anticoagulants in those with compensated and decompensated cirrhosis.
  • Participants will learn about the importance of screening for spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in hospitalized patients and monitoring those with hepatic hydrothorax.
